Goodbye

So Etienne headed back to the UK on 4 January. The days leading up to his departure were pretty sad. Everything made me cry. I even managed to cry whilst snorkelling which is no mean feat. If you want to experience extreme sobbing, simply hold your nose and attach a tube to your mouth.

Not knowing when we'll see each other again is tough when you have to say goodbye. This trip marked our first ever Christmas together (in 8 years) and is probably the longest time we've ever spent solidly in each other's company.  Judging by my feelings at the end, it worked out ok I reckon!

As we were both departing from the same airport within an hour of each other, it gave us the unusual ability to be able to wave each other off. We concocted a plan which involved Eti flashing his head torch through the window so that I could identify him from the lounge. It worked! With the added bonus that the guy sitting next to Eti thought he was deranged, presuming he was flashing a morse code message to some unsavoury acquaintances, and proceeded to move seats. Whilst back in the lounge the scene of me sobbing whilst hopelessly waving at a blacked out aeroplane put me squarely in the 'love lorn amateur dramatic' category for which I received some pitying looks.

The following two days were also hard. I barely left my hotel room, except to buy cereal and milk which I ate in bed. A real treat!  I didn't speak to anyone. I didn't even talk to myself for a whole day. I felt empty. I started this blog to keep me busy and listened to mtv on the box. Unfortunately Adele's Hello was on repeat so that put an end to that. I spotted my first white person whilst in the supermarket and did a double take. It was great when my mate Sally finally arrived on day 3 and I became normal again.
